Research Education: Portfolio Leaders

Each School within the Division has at least one senior academic appointed as a Research Education: Portfolio Leader (RE:PL). The School of Education has an Associate Dean: Research Education as well as several Research Degree Coordinators to manage different research education programs.

RE:PLs have several key roles in the management of research education within the Division. They are members of Divisional Research Management Committee, a key decision making body which makes recommendations about research education scholarships, the nature and form of the Research Education Program offered to candidates, candidate progress, and the examination of theses. RE:PLs also assist the Dean: Research & Research Education to provide advice to University committees on research education matters.

At the School level, RE:PLs undertake the following roles:

Finally, RE:PLs are an important link in the chain of approvals needed to apply for leave, an extension of candidature, and when submitting a thesis for examination.

RE:PLs are therefore key administrators of research education policies and procedures at the school level as well as the providers of significant support and advice to students and supervisors on a wide range of academic and candidate welfare issues.
