
Full Spectrum Academic Scholarship
Description
The Full Spectrum Academic Scholarship aims to develop individuals who are competent in all aspects of an academics role, including research, teaching and student management.
The Scholarship combines a PhD with the Graduate Certificate in Education (University Teaching) and supervised academic activities.
In 2009, 6 Full Spectrum Academic Scholarships will be offered in the following areas:
- Architecture
- Indigenous Studies
- Communication
- Education
- Psychology
- International Studies
- Social Work
- Visual Arts
Note: The number of Full Spectrum Academic Scholarships awarded in 2010 will depend on the quality of the applicants and the availability of teaching activities in the applicants' areas of interest.

Academic Activities
Academic activities are to be undertaken in a staged process at a level appropriate for the candidates development. The activities may include:

Tutoring

Assessment marking and development

Lecturing (including the development of lectures)

Honours student associate supervision)

Student mentoring at undergraduate lectures)

Course coordination; and

Participation in School Board meeting
Supervision
Each candidate will be allocated a principal PhD supervisor and (if required) a teaching and learning (T&L) supervisor or an academic mentor. The role of the T&L supervisor or academic mentor will be to offer advice and support regarding the day-to-day preparation, management and delivery of teaching activities.
Structure
The Scholarship is designed to be undertaken over three to three and a half years. Successful candidates will be encouraged to tailor the structure of the program to their particular needs and interests.
Eligibility
Full Spectrum Academic Scholarships are available to Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents of Australia.
Candidates must first apply for and receive either an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or UniSA Postgraduate Award (USAPA) before being considered for the Full Spectrum Academic Scholarship.
Current holders of an APA or USAPA scholarship who are within their first 12 months of candidature may also apply for the Scholarship.
Value
The scholarship offers an annual 'top-up' to an APA or USAPA scholarship. In combination, the scholarships total $30,000 tax free per annum. This will be supplemented with short-term casual teaching contracts throughout candidature.
How to apply
Applicants must apply online for either an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or a UniSA Postgraduate Award (USAPA) by 31 October. They must also register their interest in a Full Spectrum Academic Scholarship.
Current holders of an APA or USAPA scholarship who are within their first 12 months of candidature must also register their interest in a Full Spectrum Academic Scholarship. To register please email Louise.Barnes@unisa.edu.au
Selection of successful applicants will be based on an interview and supporting evidence.
