The Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences held its annual Higher Degree by Research Forum on Friday, 8 August and Saturday, 9 August 2008.
This year almost 60 abstracts were received from HDR candidates and Honours students, at all stages of their candidature, which were internally peer-reviewed. These presentations enabled the candidates to gain valuable presentation skills in a nurturing and non-threatening environment. The presentations may have been a summary of work so far, a part of their research, a summary of results, or a discussion of methodological issues that they have confronted. It also provided students with the opportunity to become involved in the research culture at UniSA and to meet other researchers, exchange ideas and share new knowledge.
This event provided a wonderful opportunity to be part of the diverse and exciting research culture at the University of South Australia. For those that were unable to attend, a video of the events on Friday night has been produced which includes keynotes by Professor Pal Ahluwalia and Dr Katrina Jaworski followed by a panel session of former EAS HDR students, facilitated by Professor Elisabeth Porter. A Forum booklet was also produced with details of the presentations.
Professor Pal Ahluwalia - On late style! Edward Said's Humanism
Dr Katrina Jaworski - How I became an organic intellectual in the process of researching suicide
