Aboriginal Studies Student

Taryn May

Bachelor of Arts (Aboriginal Studies)

"Hi, my name’s Taryn, I’m studying the Bachelor of Aboriginal Studies at UniSA.

The thing I enjoy most about Aboriginal Studies is meeting like-minded people that are interested in improving the future of our Indigenous people. Meeting professional people that are still passionate about what they do, and they pass that on to you.

The courses you’re involved in are directly related to your future and your career.

I know I’d like to perhaps continue with a research degree, and getinvolved in administration and policy, possibly become a lecturer one day, but definitely travel around the world, and be involved in as many community development opportunities as possible.

If I could offer one piece of advice to future uni students, it would be to embrace the fact that you don’t know much, because that will encourage you to learn everything that you possibly can.

A typical day at uni usually involves me meeting up with a bunch of friends before we go to a lecture, and get a lot of information about a particular topic, then we’ll wander off to a tute where we get to finally discuss our opinions and what we’ve learned in the day.

My name’s Taryn, I’m studying the Bachelor of Aboriginal Studies at UniSA."
