Computer Systems Engineering Centre

Entrance to the Mawson Lakes campusThe Computer Systems Engineering Centre (CSEC) is a research concentration within the School of Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of South Australia Mawson Lakes campus.

CSEC aims to develop the theoretical foundations required for the design of distributed systems, and to apply these foundations and their associated computer tools to practical industrial problems. The work currently has a number of research thrusts:

Please note that the some of the links in the following paragraphs will take you to websites outside of the University of South Australia.

The group currently uses Coloured Petri Nets and their associated support tools, Design/CPN and CPN Tools, for much of the applications work. Timed Automata have also been used for some of the mission systems work. For more information on Petri Nets in general, please visit Petri Nets World .

CSEC has extensive international collaboration. One project is sponsored by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) and is with the University of Paris 13, France. The Computer Systems Engineering Centre has significant international links with other research groups, including a MOU with Aarhus University, Denmark, for collaboration on Coloured Petri Net tools and techniques. It is engaged in International activities related to Petri nets, including holding the 23rd International Conference On Application and Theory of Petri Nets in Adelaide, South Australia, in June 2002, and driving the development of International Standard, ISO/IEC 15909, on High-level Petri Nets

We welcome interaction with scholars and students who are interested in modelling and analysing distributed systems, and provide top-up scholarships to top ranking students wishing to embark on PhD studies.
