Barbara Sedorkin writes: I have been working on a book entitled 'The Parks high school: a brief history', in which I will be interviewing ex-students, politicians of the time frame (1973-1996, when the school closed) and school teachers and parents - several of whom worked on school councils and committees. This school was different from any other as it was part of a community centre, which consisted of a health centre and pools, gym, dentist, library, art and craft studios and two theatres. All were shared by the school. Why was such innovation in education dismantled in such a socio-economic and educationally deprived area? There were many reasons which this book will explore. The book will be published by the School of Education at Mawson Lakes campus.
