Publications
- Roger Harris and Michele Simons have had a refereed paper, VET practitioners working with private enterprises: a third space?, accepted for The Journal of Workplace Learning (UK). This journal article is based on the paper they presented at the 4th Researching Work and Learning International Conference, University of Technology, Sydney, 12-15 December, 2005. Their paper was one of 10 selected out of 28 of the conference papers for further refereeing for publication in this international journal.
- Deb Tranter has completed a review of the book 'Degrees of choice. Social class, race and gender in higher education' by Diane Reay, Miriam David and Stephen Ball for the refereed journal, Studies in Continuing Education, for publication in its forthcoming edition.
- Deb has also had a proposal approved for the 2006 AARE Conference in December and is finalizing the paper 'Becoming self-conscious: Exploring habitus' for refereeing.
- The International Journal of the Humanities sets out to foster inquiry, invite dialogue and build a body of knowledge on the nature and future of the humanities. It is a fully peer-reviewed journal and can be accessed here.
Conferences and presentations

Roger Harris presented an invited keynote address, The jigsaw of adult learning: learning styles as one key piece?, as well as two workshops on learning styles, to the Creating Great Training, SA Department of Primary Industries and Resources, Farmbis Professional Development Day, Adelaide Shores Function Complex, West Beach, 5 May. About 80 government and private training personnel participated.

Roger Harris gave an invited, one-hour presentation, An editors point of view, to about 30 participants in the Universitys Early Career Researcher Development Program, Mawson Centre, 12 May.

Alan Reid presented the keynote address on Linking schools and community to a conference of Southern Districts schools and ICANS at the Flagstaff Hill Golf Club on Tuesday May 1, 2006.

Alan Reid presented the keynote address to 500 Principals and Coordinators from DECS, Catholic Education and the independent sector, at a conference on the SACE Review held at the Festival Theatre on Tuesday 16 May.

Alan Reid gave a presentation on the SACE Review to Uni SAs Academic Board, on Friday 26 May.

The 4th International Conference on the Humanities will be held at the University of Carthage, Tunis, Tunisia, 3 - 6 July 2006, main theme: Global and Local Dialogues in the Humanities. The Humanities Conference is attended and supported by delegates who wish to share knowledge and to learn from the experience of others on an international level. The 2006 event will bring together some of the world's leading thinkers and practitioners in the humanities field. Presentations which have been accepted for inclusion in the conference program can be viewed here . If you have missed the previous call-for-papers, we still have vacancies in our program, and encourage you to submit a proposal to the Conference Committee.

Roger Harris was invited to be an Advisory Board member of the HRD International Journal (USA/UK), ISSN: 1367-8868, in the Taylor & Francis stable (and was named as such in vol. 9, no. 1. March 2006).

- A call for nominations for researchers in HRISS was circulated to all staff on11 May 2006.
- Reminder: We are in our 5th week of the HRISS weekly morning teas and the feedback has been great. If you havent already been, come along and join in. Its a weekly occurrence, Wednesday 10 11am tea, coffee and cake provided, so if youre in the area pop in wed love to see you. This Wednesday 31 May we have a special morning tea and are asking for a gold coin donation to support the Cancer Council. REMEMBER: Wednesdays 10 11am, MH1-06 Murray House, Magill.

We are very sad to report the passing on of our colleague and Senior CREEW Researcher, Sue Howard, who was a lovely person, a friend to many of us, and will be sorely missed.

You may not be aware that CREEW keeps a running database of publications and grants attributed to CREEW members. These databases have recently been updated from the 2005 Activity Report. The publications database currently lists nearly 1000 entries and the grants database records some $6,400,000 won by CREEW members since 1994. Well done everyone!
