The University of South Australia’s Centre for Regional Engagement in
partnership with health care professionals from regional SA, have
recently developed a new resource manual and produced a DVD package to
further assist rural health professionals working in the field of
palliative care.
This research project, led by Associate Professor Mary Oliver was funded
by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Ageing in 2006.
“This research has taken a
path of continuous consultation with rural, state and national health
care professionals forming part of an expert reference group for the
project. The resource materials have been developed through a
consultative process identifying the specific psychosocial needs of
rural palliative care clients and their families and caregivers” said
Associate Professor Oliver
Associate Professor Oliver said “The state-of-the-art twin products
(resource manual and learning environment produced on DVD 1 and 2) will
assist many people including health professionals in dealing with
pastoral care, counselling and support of palliative care patients and
their families within Australia.”
This resource is being launched by Steve Georganas MP, Federal Member
for Hindmarsh, in Whyalla at the Centre for Regional Engagement on
Tuesday 28 April 2009. Also in attendance at the launch will be the
