Nursing and Rural Health
Nursing and Rural Health is a progressive regionally based
unit providing quality education for students, with a particular focus on
rural nursing practice. Academic staff also engage with community groups and industry partners
to support community health and the local health workforce.
Nursing (pre-registration) degree
The undergraduate nursing degree prepares graduates for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, a requirement for practice as a registered nurse.
Employment outcomes are excellent with graduates gaining positions in rural and metropolitan hospitals and healthcare settings across Australia. Graduates who prefer to work in their local rural community have a high rate of success in gaining that employment.
The Bachelor of Nursing program has been designed to prepare nurses to meet contemporary health care requirements and respond to Australian and international healthcare trends. As well as studying contemporary theory, students undertake a range of practical learning experiences through placements and simulation-based learning in nursing laboratories. The program is available at both Whyalla and Mount Gambier. More details are available in the brochure (PDF 1Mb) (opens in new window).
