The Donald Dyer
Scholarship has been established at the University of South Australia to encourage
postgraduate and other advanced research of an original nature leading to the advancement
of knowledge in public relations and communication. The scholarship has been
made possible by a generous bequest to the University from the estate of the
late Sylvia Dyer, and is the most generous PR scholarship available in Australia for
communication practitioners and researchers.
The scholarship recognises the pioneering work of Mrs Dyer's late husband, Donald, his major contributions to the public relation profession by way of establishing the Public Relations Institute of Australia in South Australia and to the Institute nationally.
Applications are invited for a postgraduate research degree scholarship from persons with a first class honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant undergraduate field of study. The successful applicant for the Scholarship will be required to undertake research in a specific topic in the fields of public relations, communications management. The scholarship includes support to attend Public Relations Institute of Australia and other conferences at local and national levels to present the results of research. The Donald Dyer scholarship holder will join approximately 128 other postgraduate research degree students currently studying for PhDs or Masters by research in the School of Communication, International Studies and Languages.
The Scholarship will also cover the financial obligations of the student contribution amount for Australians or the tuition fees for international students for the normal period of candidature. The trustees of the scholarship will consider part-time scholarships for Australian residents. International students are required to study full-time in Adelaide.
