ICAFT
International Conference on
Accounting and Finance in Transition
Adelaide, April 10-12, 2006
In 2006 the School of Commerce of the University of South Australia organised this important international conference, as a venue in which to explore issues raised for accounting and finance academics, practitioners, and policy makers by periods of rapid economic and social change. The Conference took place in the modern setting of the University of South Australias City West Campus, which is located within the City Centre of Adelaide.
The main objective of ICAFT is to bring together academics and practitioners from all over the world to address a range of important themes with respect to finance, accounting, financial/accounting information systems, and public policy, and their impact on people, organisations and states. ICAFT 2006 was the fourth consecutive conference, following earlier conferences organised in Greenwich, London (2003, 2005) and Kavala, Greece (2004).
The 2006 conference examined not only those issues related to transition from a command to a market-oriented economy, and their implications for the accounting and finance professions, but also other aspects of accounting and finance affected by times of rapid social and economic change. Presented papers addressed issues such as the failure of classical accounting and finance models and methodologies to grasp the nuances of emerging markets and evolving social requirements.
The International Programme Committee was comprised of scholars from Australia, Europe, China and SE Asia, and the United States, with a background in accounting, economics, finance, law and other social sciences, including a number of editors of learned journals.
All accepted conference papers are available on a conference CD-ROM [ISSN 1751-830X (CD ROM)], edited by Professor Mervyn Lewis and Ron P. McIver. A selection of revised papers is to be published in the fourth volume of the Accounting and Finance in Transition book series.
