National Student Journalism Award

Journalism student, Catherine Graue, has won a national student journalism award for best radio current affairs. The judge’s comment was that her story, ‘Hot rocks’, was an original idea which was well researched and balanced.
The Journalism Education Association awards are given
yearly to the best journalism students studying at universities around the
country. The University of SA also did well in the best online publication
category when
The Warbler
was highly
commended for “its navigation, newsy articles and a small but professional
representation of video reporting”.

In 2007 the School of Communication at UniSA celebrates its 30th anniversary of the accreditation of the first Australian BA degree in Communications in 1977. As part of our celebrations we are proud to host the Annual Conference of the Cultural Studies Association of Australasia (CSAA) and invite attendees to consider what the future holds for cultural research; in particular, how can we better contribute to the pressing debates of our time about environmental and social sustainability?

The field of communication includes journalism, broadcast media, online and multimedia communication, advertising, public relations, writing, cultural studies, media management, digital content creation, marketing communication, editing and publishing, as well as drama, performing arts, and music.

Open Day 2007 will be held on Sunday August 26 at the City West campus, Thursday August 23 and Friday August 24 at Whyalla campus, and on Monday September 17 at the Mt Gambier campus.
World Fire and Police Games '07

The School of Communication, is proud to be involved with the 2007 World Fire and Police Games, held in Adelaide in March.
Film and video students from the Bachelor of Media Arts captured events and interviews as the games progressed, enabling staff and students to enjoy a 'real life' experience in conjunction with their study programs. Graduates and students from the Journalism program also produced daily news bulletins for the games.
