Centre for Microsystems Technology
Research at the Centre for Microsystems Technology (CMST)
comprises the design and fabrication of integrated microelectromechanical
systems (MEMS) by micro engineering.
Microengineering is an emerging technology that seeks to develop very small devices combining mechanical, electronic, chemical and other functions. Because of their small scale, microsystems can offer major advantages in cost versus functionality. There are exciting possibilities to access confined spaces and to producing very compact systems. MEMS are seen to be an enabling technology adding value to complex systems. They are so pervasive that they now have applications in numerous fields, and are finding demand in many industries, including medical, aerospace, automotive, displays, communications, and micro-instrumentation. more
