Regina Sagu

| Regina Sagu is the Senior Provincial Magistrate for the
District Courts in Port Moresby. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws Degree at the
University of Papua New Guinea in 1985 and practiced law in the Legal Aid Office of the
Public Solicitor's. Following this she became the legal Advisor to the Engan
Provincial Government. She established her own private legal practice in 1992 and
continued in this practice until she was appointed to the bench in 1994. She has served as
a Magistrate in both Provincial and in the national capital Port Moresby. At present she
is reponsible for 20 Magistrates. She has been active in promoting Alternative
Dispute Resolution and in her position as Chair of the Judicial Education Working
Committee she has sought to have ADR adopted in both the higher and lower Courts. She
is an active practioner of ADR in her court and sees that ADR is the adoption of the
melanesian style of conflict resolution utilized within the prresent court system. |
