Indigenous

Young people, Reconciliation. Our Future
(1 hour session)

Ms Diat Alferink

The facilitator will introduce a panel of six (6) diverse young Aboriginal people who will each speak to 5 minute presentations on specific initiatives that involve young Aboriginal people, themselves and their agencies; and the broader community in mediation processes that foster principles of Reconciliation and Self Determination.

The six presenters are:

Ms Nola Davey (Aboriginal Youth Action Committee)

Mr Farin Wanganeen (Youth Views Project and Indigenous Mentorship Program)

Ms Arwen Pratt (Future of Young Employees Initiative)

Mr Troy Bond and Mr Rus Nasir (Substance Abuse Community Education through Story Boards)

Mr Jason Scott (National Indigenous Youth Forum)

The stories from the six presenters will highlight various practices and development models that encourage young people to exercise leadership and decision-making skills in their communities. It is the leadership development and decision-making that young people believe is fundamental to creating better pathways for the future of youth and their community.

The facilitator (in dot point) will summarise key themes emerging from the six presentations.

As a next step the facilitator will encourage healthy debate and discussion between the audience and the panel on the key themes.
