Power Grads
Helen Wolfenden
Hello, my name’s Helen Wolfenden and I’m a Doctor of Communication Student at The University of South Australia. Pretty much all of my degree has been done long distance. When I started, I was based at the ABC at Kalgoolie, then in Darwin, and now I’m based in Glasgow. I work some of the time at the BBC and then the rest of my time on my study.
Studying long distance has it’s challenges but I think what keeps me going is that I love the project and I get great support from my supervisor, Doctor Jackie Cook.
What I’m looking at is the way broadcasters and particularly radio presenters construct an on-air identity or a persona. So, it means I get to talk to all of the most interesting presenters about how they do what they do.
So, here I am, and I just wanted to say happy birthday, happy thirtieth birthday to the University of South Australia School of Communications. I don’t know how a university blows out candles but I hope you get them all in one go. Cheers.
