Power Grads

Rosanna Mangiarelli

My name’s Rosanna Mangiarelli, I’m the host of Adelaide’s only weekly current affairs programme, Today Tonight, here at Channel Seven. I started at Channel Seven in 2004, I was a reporter initially and did some presenting, and from then on moved onto producing as well. But, I’ve been in this role for a couple of months now and as much as I do love my presenting, it’s also important for me to keep a hand in the reporting side of things.

After graduating, I did a couple of weeks work experience in the country at Central Television in Port Pirie where I actually earned myself a full time position there. I worked there for about a year and a half before moving on to the ABC in Tasmania, then it was ABC newsroom in Adelaide where I was presenting, reporting, producing and from then on I ended up presenting a national news service with a subsidiary of the ABC called Asia Pacific, moved back to Adelaide for a couple of years before moving on to Channel Seven.

Journalism’s such a fun, dynamic, interesting industry to work in, especially TV journalism, that’s what keeps me going, that adrenaline that live television gives you. Whether I’m in a producing role, reporting role or presenting role, it’s unbeatable.

I did a Bachelor of Art at the Uni of SA, majoring in Journalism with a sub-major in Italian. It just was a great launching pad to get me where I am today and not only did we learn the ins and outs of the industry, very useful things came out like media law, ethics as well, and I tell you what, Ian Richards has never let me misspell another word again.

The great thing about Magill Uni, is it just had a great family atmosphere, all the lecturers were just so approachable, any time we could go and knock on their door and have a chat with them with whatever we needed to chat about. It was a great, warm atmosphere that encouraged study and encouraged a lot of friendships as well.
I think with an potential employers, a light does switch on when they hear Uni of SA Journalism, it’s a great course and it has produced some of the finest journalists in our country and so many people have done that course and moved on to bigger and better things because it just gives you that solid grounding that you need.

Well, happy birthday School of Communication, I can tell you from experience that it only gets better from here.
