Advice Research Consulting Collaborative Statistics
ARCCS is a statistical consulting service provided by the School of Mathematics and Statistics and is based at the University of South Australias City West Campus. The service provides a diverse array of statistical functions that range from basic data analysis to sophisticated statistical analyses. The aim of ARCCS is to strengthen the research base, outputs and directions of UniSA staff (and students).
The ARCCS Director is Assoc Professor Irene Hudson who has an extensive publication record in the areas of biostatistics, causal inference, statistical phenology, ecological inference, health environmetrics and wood informatics. She is widely cited for her contributions to health sciences, biostatistics, global climate indicators and wood science.
ARCCS was originally set up in 2003 to provide statistical help for staff and students belonging to the division of Business and Enterprise. It has since expanded to include other University Divisions along with external clients who require statistical consulting or advice.

The Service provides:
- Consulting sessions for statistical advice for staff, honours or research students and external clients. (Note that the School of Mathematics and Statistics runs a Help Desk during semester where undergraduate students can obtain help with quantitative problems.)
- An informal seminar series on statistical applications (Convenors Dr Yan Wang and Assoc Professor Irene Hudson), held fortnightly. To be included on the email list for notification of these seminars please contact Hayley Timms on hayley.timms@unisa.edu.au.
- A basic statistics course for staff and research students, usually run in study period 5.
- Auditing of statistical aspects of research project proposals.
- Advice on statistical course development and accreditation.
- Occasional day or evening sessions on special topics (eg. SPSS, R, S-Plus, Minitab)

Consulting rates: (hourly rates do not apply where there is a service agreement with the School/Division)
- Internal student $60 $100 per hour or part thereof*
- Internal staff $120 $170 per hour or part thereof*
- External clientele $180 $240 per hour or part thereof*
*Please note: These rates do not include GST.
The actual rate charged will depend on the consultant and the complexity of the problem being undertaken. The first consultation, up to a maximum of an hour, will be charged at half this rate.
As indicated above, work is normally charged per hour, but for short courses and more involved or long-term projects a quotation for all the work involved may be negotiated.
It is not out policy to complete full analyses for postgraduate students, rather to enable their own analyses, interpretation and reporting.
