IKEA's approach to people management 
In 2006, IKEA recruited and selected 400 co-workers from a field of 19,000. This presentation will overview how IKEA Adelaide undertook this recruitment and selection process, some of the challenges faced when the Bradman Drive store opened, and the retention initiatives IKEA is undertaking to retain our co-workers, such as the employee survey and wellness programs.

The Workforce planning issues of the Olympic Dam expansion project.

BHP Billiton are currently exploring the feasibility of expanding the existing Olympic Dam mine fourfold, thus creating the world's second largest open pit mine. The pre-feasibility study is expected to cost $500 million, and the actual expansion around $5bn,  with the expanded operation requiring at least 4,000 people in day-to-day operation. The mining sector is already experiencing extreme skill shortage - how will they find these additional employees?

12.30-2pm, Wednesday, August 29, RR5-09 Samantha Wilkinson, HR Manager, Oxiana Prominent Hill People Management Issues at Prominent Hill: By the second half of 2008, Oxiana will commence mining copper and gold from a large open pit mine 130 km northwest of Olympic Dam. The mine development will cost about $775m and will employ about 400 people. Such a large and remote mine presents a range of challenges for HR management, similar but different to that of the much larger BHP Billiton ODX mine.
