Dr Ian GouldChancellor's Awards for Community Engagement

The Chancellor's Awards for Community Engagement recognise and value University staff and student initiatives that promote the social, environmental, economic and cultural development of communities and that are undertaken in partnership with communities.

The University's Vision, Mission and Values express a commitment to engaging with our communities and this commitment is further described in the Regional, Industry and Community Engagement section of the Strategic Plan as the following undertaking:

The University will... be distinguished for engaging with communities, for addressing contemporary multidisciplinary problems in teaching and research, for working in partnership to help build social capacity and community resilience, and developing in graduates professionalism and good citizenship.

A particular focus of the Chancellor's Awards for Community Engagement is on students and staff engaging with


Selection criteria


A community engagement initiative must meet all of the following criteria to be accepted as a successful nomination:

1.     Is a UniSA project
2.     Extends the University's core values
3.     Promotes the social, environmental, economic, and/or cultural
        development of a community
4.     Demonstrates a significant impact on a community
5.     Involves a community partnership in its planning, implementation
        and evaluation
6.     Provides a mutual benefit to UniSA and the partner/community.
 

Nominations

Nominations for the 2009 Awards are due on Friday 19 June 2009. 

 
Eligibility

The Awards are open to groups or individual:
•     Academic staff
•     Professional staff
•     Students
•     A combination of the above.


Selection committee

A Selection Committee will select award winners and determine the distribution of funds to successful nominees. Membership of the committee will be:
•     Chancellor (Chair)
•     External member of Council
•     Pro Vice Chancellor: Strategy and Planning or nominee
•     Director: Research & Innovation Services or nominee.


Award catergories

There are three possible awards within the Chancellor’s Awards for Community Engagement:
1.     Winner
2.     Special Commendation
3.     Commendation.

Winners will receive prize money to continue to expand their community engagement initiative. The amount of the prize will be determined by the Selection Committee. It is usually between $1000 - $7000.


Awards ceremony

The 2009 Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday 14 August 2009 from 3-5pm in the Bradley Forum.  Please book this into your diaries!
