Nominations for the 2011 Awards are now open. Nominations are due to Alison Plummer by Monday 19 September 2011.

Those who have been nominated for an award will be contacted in October and the presentation ceremony will be held on Thursday 3 November 2011.

About the awards

The Vice Chancellor's annual Awards for Professional Staff Excellence offer University-wide recognition of outstanding contributions by professional staff.

The awards are based on categories of excellence which reflect the University's vision, mission and values and the aspirations set out in Horizon 2020.  The categories are:

• Providing Quality Service
• Working Across Boundaries
• Working Smarter/Getting Results 
• Leading Change.

Each nomination will be in one of these categories.  Nominations may be for individuals or teams, and for work within a particular area or across the University as a whole.

Award categories
 

Providing Quality Service

• recognising consistently outstanding service to internal or external customers and clients. 

Working Across Boundaries

• recognising success in bringing ideas, people and resources together across academic or administrative units within and/or outside UniSA to develop and implement significant cross-functional initiatives or systems. The emphasis here is on collaboration and establishing or extending constructive working partnerships across organisational boundaries. 

Working Smarter/Getting Results

• recognising creative and innovative solutions that improve the way work is done, that make it easier, more efficient, more productive, and/or less costly, while ensuring the continued quality of outcomes. 

Leading Change

• recognising exemplary leadership characterised by: providing inspiration to colleagues and clients through personal or collective professionalism; engaging in best practice for sustainable outcomes; working collaboratively to enhance teamwork; and positively influencing others and building shared commitment to workplace and organisational objectives. This category would be very applicable to outstanding supervisors of professional staff.

Nominations

Who is eligible?

UniSA contract and continuing professional staff are eligible for any of the four categories.

Team or individual?

Exemplary contributions and achievements may be as a result of team effort or the efforts of an individual. These awards recognise both.

If making a team nomination, it is important to ensure that each team member can be shown to have made an outstanding contribution to that team's achievements.

Select a single award category

Some achievements or contributions by staff may be relevant to more than one category of award. However, in making nominations, please select one category that best fits the individual or team achievements and write the nomination to that category.

Nomination form

All nominations for the Vice Chancellor's Awards for Professional Staff Excellence should be made using the Nomination form.  The Nomination form includes additional guidelines for preparing the nomination.

Supporting statements may be gathered separately and included as e-documents.

All nominations should be emailed or posted to the Executive Officer of the awards, Alison Plummer, by Monday 19 September 2011.

Selection and recognition

Awards Selection Committee

The Professional Staff Awards Committee will convene in October to select award winners and determine the distribution of funds to successful nominees to support further professional development.

Membership of the committee will be:

• Pro Vice Chancellor: International and Development
• Director: Human Resources
• Director: Council Services and Chancellery
• Student member of Council
• External member of Council

who will make recommendations to the Vice Chancellor and President.

The Executive Officer to the Awards will notify all nominees, nominators and the supervisors of the nominees of the outcome of the selection process.

Recognition

Award winners will be recognised in a number of ways including:

• presentation of a certificate acknowledging their achievement and the category of their award
• an allocation of funds to be used for further professional development
• a feature spread in UniSANews describing the achievements of the winner/s.

The Presentation of Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday 3 November 2011 in the Hawke Building, City West campus. All staff will be invited to the event to help celebrate.
