Caravan and tourist parks
In 2002/2003 researchers from the three University collaborators
conducted focus group sessions with staff and visitors at caravan and
tourist parks. The University of Technology Sydney (NSW), Griffith
University (Qld) and Unisa (CERM PI) researchers posed the same set of
questions to these groups to identify 'what makes a great caravan or
tourist park?'.
A pilot study commenced in May 2003 and during the same time visitors were asked to respond to a questionnaire designed to identify potential areas for improvement in service quality and with a view to benchmark these results across similar facilities. This was followed by a survey in September 2003 involving about 20 test sites from around Australia. The customer survey was integrated with the results of an operational management survey of the same facilities to provide an overall format for future benchmarking in this industry.
