2008 programs

CELUSA will offer the following programs from January, 2008.

NB All CELUSA programs are taught on-campus and are not available in external mode or as online study. Programs are assessed on a formal and informal basis.

Academic English (AE)

This program is for students who are planning to study at an Australian education institution or those who want a more academic focus to their studies. The higher levels of AE are designed for students who need to meet the English language admission requirement of University of South Australia, SAIBT or Le Cordon Bleu.

Students applying for these institutions will not need to take the IELTS or other English language test if they successfully complete the AE programs at an appropriate level. Students will study for between 10 and 40 weeks, depending on their English level when they begin and the equivalent IELTS they require for their further studies.

AE develops the skills necessary for academic study, such as listening to lectures and note-taking, planning and writing essays and reports, and taking part in group discussions and spoken presentations.

CELUSA will also offer IELTS preparation courses for students planning to take the IELTS test. These courses will cover test-taking strategies and preparation at a range of levels.

General English (GE)

The GE program develops English communications skills in speaking, reading, writing and listening, as well as grammar and pronunciation.

Students also study Australian culture and idioms. The teaching style is communicative with a lot of interaction and practice in useful, natural English. This program is for students who want to improve their English fluency for travel work and socialising.  Many lower level students begin in General English before continuing to Academic English at CELUSA.

Special programs

CELUSA offers short and long term courses for special purposes.

Some of these are offered in conjunction with UniSA schools such as the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the School of Engineering at UniSA Mawson Lakes campus. These courses are mostly held in closed classes in which students study as one group on their own, but they can also be integrated into regular classes.
