Special programs
NB All CELUSA programs are taught on-campus and are not available in external mode or as online study. Programs are assessed on a summative and formative basis.
University Entrance Certificate (UEC)
UEC is designed for students who need to meet the English language
admission requirement of University of South Australia, SAIBT or Le Cordon Bleu.
If you are applying for these institutions you will not need to take the IELTS or
other English language test if they successfully complete their UEC
programs. There are three levels of UEC. You will study for 10 or
20 weeks, depending on your English level when you begin, and the
equivalent IELTS you require for your further studies.
Admission requirements
Admission to UEC ranges between IELTS 5.0 and 6.0 (or equivalent), depending on the required UEC level. If you cannot provide an IELTS or TOEFL score you will be required to complete an on-line writing task. On your first day at CELUSA you will undertake the CELUSA placement test and will need to achieve a particular score for admission to UEC. If you don't get into the UEC program, you will start in EAP.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
This program is for students who are planning to study at an Australian education institution or those who want a more academic focus than provided in our GIE program.
EAP develops the skills necessary for academic study, such as listening to lectures and note-taking, planning and writing essays and reports, and taking part in group discussions and spoken presentations. Some EAP students plan to take the IELTS test, so test-taking strategies and preparation are included in the high levels of the program. There are three levels of EAP. Many EAP students continue to the UEC program at CELUSA.
Admission requirements
No particular IELTS or TOEFL score is required for entrance to EAP. On your first day at CELUSA you will sit a placement test which will place you in the appropriate level of EAP. If you don't get into an EAP program you will start in a GIE program.
General Intensive English (GIE)
The GIE program develops English communications skills in speaking, reading, writing and listening, as well as grammar and pronunciation.
Students also study Australian culture and idioms. The teaching style is communicative with a lot of interaction and practice in useful, natural English. This program is for students who want to improve their English fluency for travel work and socialising. There are three levels of GIE. Many lower level students begin in GIE before continuing to EAP at CELUSA.
Admission requirements
No particular IELTS or TOEFL score is required for entrance to GIE. On your first day at CELUSA you will sit a placement test which will place you in the appropriate level of GIE.
Special programs
CELUSA offers short and long term courses for special purposes.
Some of these are offered in conjunction with UniSA schools such as the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the School of Engineering at UniSA Mawson Lakes campus. These courses are mostly held in closed classes in which students study as one group on their own, but they can also be integrated into regular classes.
