CELUSA Accommodation Service

The CELUSA Accommodation Officers are part of the CELUSA support team, and they assist with any living or lifestyle problems that come up during your time at CELUSA. Please drop by and see them in the Accommodation Office if you have any queries about adjusting to a new culture, homesickness concerns, or accommodation-related difficulties.

Available through the CELUSA Accommodation Service, when paying the Accommodation Processing Fee, are accommodation placement, airport reception, and airport transfer.

CELUSA students can choose from the following accommodation options:

*Please note for Homestay and International Student Residences…

Accommodation is organised before arrival, students need to inform CELUSA Accommodation of their preferences six weeks before arriving in Adelaide. You can do this by either downloading the Accommodation Application Form (PDF 153kb - download Adobe Acrobat, link opens in new window), or by applying online with your study program, Apply now

Homestay Family

CELUSA recommends students new to Australia to spend at least 6-8 weeks with a homestay family in order to experience the culture and lifestyle and have questions answered about some of the cultural differences that maybe noticed in the first few months.

Living with an Australian family gives students the chance to experience the daily routines and customs of Australians. You will also have a safe, caring environment, and the opportunity to speak English in an everyday setting.

Your homestay family will generally take you to sporting and cultural events and places of local interest, and introduce you to friends and extended family. In brief, you are a member of the family! Many CELUSA students continue to live with their homestay family through to university.

All families are interviewed and carefully selected against quality standards to ensure that your stay is an enjoyable experience. Please contact CELUSA for further information about homestay.

International Student Residences

CELUSA recommends students to apply well ahead of arrival as many international student residences fill up quickly at certain times of the year. Students from many countries, and some Australian students, live in these residences while studying at university.

Student residences in Adelaide are usually close to the city centre or on a fast transport route. You can opt for full board accommodation (meals are provided on weekdays), or part board (cook your own food, or buy it from a local shop or restaurant).

Furnished single rooms are provided and kitchen and bathroom facilities are shared. There are also lounge, recreation areas and cooking equipment. Linen (sheets, pillowcases, etc) is supplied.

Rental or Shared Accommodation

CELUSA recommends students to have a good level of English to understand rental rights and responsibilities in Australia. Because contracts usually have to be signed, a deposit or bond paid, and electricity and gas connections specified, CELUSA cannot arrange rental accommodation before you arrive in Adelaide. Lower-level English students are advised to spend time in homestay accommodation until they have gained greater confidence and speaking skills.

You can rent an apartment (called a ‘flat’ or ‘unit’ in Australia) or a house in Adelaide just for yourself, or on a shared basis with other students. There is also hostel accommodation (often called ‘backpackers’) if you do not have much luggage to secure, or if you do not need to take care of expensive study equipment.

Some information about rental properties and backpacker hostels is available from the CELUSA Accommodation Service, local newspapers, and real estate agents.
