Major journals on innovation

As we could find no list of journals covering innovation, we carried out a bibliometric analysis of online databases to produce this list. A search was made on 16 November 2005, using the databases Ebsco, ScienceDirect, Emerald, and Ingenta. For each database, article titles and abstracts were searched for the word "innovation". Specialized journals, covering only one group of industries, were excluded - e.g. those on innovation in the construction and pharmaceutical industries.

The 10 journals with the highest ranking, in terms of the number of articles found, were:

Not quite making the top 10, but each with at least 30 articles on innovation available online, were (not in order):

Limitations

1. This is a measure of available articles, as opposed to concentration of articles on innovation. It is thus more relevant for readers than for authors.

2. Articles are restricted to those found online - generally covering the last 10 years or so. Some long-established journals would have had far more articles on innovation, if those available only in print form were added.

3. Journals not available through the above four databases are not included in the list. However, we don't believe we missed any major journals.
