What does the red 'E' mean on my ID card?
Return to: Campus Central FAQ Home > Id cards
The red 'E' is short for ENTEXT, meaning 'Entitlement of Extra Time in Exams'. Students who have ENTEXT status are entitled to 10 minutes per hour of extra reading and writing time, and the use of an English language print dictionary (for Indigenous Australian students) or a bilingual print dictionary (for students from non-English speaking backgrounds), but not both dictionaries.
Students entitled to ENTEXT status are those who are:
- Indigenous Australian students;
- students of non-English speaking background (NESB students) as defined by
the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) i.e.:
i. born outside Australia;
ii. arrived in Australia less than ten years previously; and
iii. speak a language other than English at home; - mature age students (as defined by DEEWR, i.e. 21 or over at the time of admission to the program) who also speak a language other than English at home; and
- transnational students of non-English speaking background where the language spoken at home is not English and the medium of instruction is English.
This is in accordance with section 3.4.3 of the
Assessment Policy
which states that students who are indigenous or who have identified themselves
as coming from a Non English speaking background (NESB) are entitled to extra
support during exams, unless otherwise specified in the course information
booklet.
If you did not identify yourself as an Indigenous Australian student or student
from a non-English speaking background when you enrolled, and you wish to have
ENTEXT entitlements, you need to contact
Campus Central to amend your
records.
