Research and scholarship

Postgraduate students

The CAA will encourage postgraduate students to work with the Centre. In 2004-5, the CAA will is offering scholarships to conduct research work in 3D anthropometry. In particular, the CAA will encourage cross-disciplinary research in areas such as ergonomics, industrial design, graphic design, health and sports science.

In 2004/2005, 4 Honours students completed their studies and graduated. There are 4 more Honours students undertaking work through the centre.  Please note abstracts of these studies are available for download below:

Two PhD scholarships are hoped to be offered in 2006

Doctoral and postgraduate student involvement

The project offers enormous scope for employing honours, postgraduate and post-doctoral students both during the project phase itself, and as part of the Centre for Applied Anthropometry.

UniSA will apply for postgraduate scholarships regularly.

Successful candidates will help with data collection and processing while pursuing related research. Research areas of interest may include body image, use of 3D scanning in estimating body composition, morphology of athletes, socio-demographic correlates of body morphology, and changes in morphology associated with growth, maturation and training. Defence-related areas might cover joint kinematics subject to harness restraints, redesign of clothing and equipment, alternative mathematical analysis strategies such as neural networks, and modification of crewstation design for better fit, comfort and reach. Commercialisation opportunities exist in relation to mass customisation of apparel, furniture and workstations, and individualisation of sports gear. Finally, there has been great interest from various HMPs in working towards new ways of incorporating 3D data cloud morphologies into the HMP so as to be able to modify manikins to better represent real 3D morphologies.
