Thesis presentation and examination
Towards the end of candidature, students will submit their final thesis for examination. In preparing for this stage, students and supervisors should consider presentation of the thesis. Examiners of the thesis will be decided by the Honours Program Director in conjunction with the Dean Research after consultation with the supervisor. A further guide to these processes is in your program information guide.
Thesis presentation
The length of your thesis will be between 13 000 and 18 000 words (absolute maximum). The thesis should be formatted following the same guidelines set for the Masters by Research and PhD though to a smaller scale. Research Services offer the following as a guide:
Thesis examination
The Honours thesis is examined by two examiners, one of which must be external to the University. The Honours Program Director and Dean Research will decide the examiners and will consult with the supervisor. Examiners need to be active researchers in the relevant topic area of the thesis and hold a PhD.
Several weeks prior to the submission of the thesis, supervisors will be consulted, with respect to the nomination of external examiners, by the Dean Research and the Honours Program Director.
Examiners are given 2 weeks to examine the thesis using the examination guide. Once the examiner comments have been returned, a Committee meets to make the final assessment based on the students coursework results and those from the examination of the thesis.
For examination of their award they will submit:
- Three hard-bound copies of their thesis for inclusion in the library and Division;
- An electronic, PDF, copy of the thesis
- Statement (.doc - 26 kb) from their supervisor attesting the thesis meets the requirements for award; and
- Authors Consent Form (pdf - 14.56 kb)
