2007 Accepted the offer to work at the South Australian
Auditor-General's Office
My honours year in the University of South Australia has had a positive impact on my professional career and personal development because it has allowed me to develop myself in three ways. Firstly, I have learnt how to master time management as I was required to work towards established deadlines. Secondly, my multitasking skills have benefited as it was critical element towards my success as I was also working part-time in the education field whilst studying. Lastly, I had the opportunity to work with my supervisor, an expert in the field, who imparted upon me the knowledge of the industry workings and the environmental reporting a newly developed area in the discipline of accounting.
The best attribute that the Division of Business Honours program gave to me was the opportunity to work with a supervisor who had diverse expertise in the discipline. This experience allowed me to learn fundamentals required for academic research and the necessary qualities required to publish research papers. It also encouraged me to develop my analytical thinking and evaluation skills as I was required to access literature on journal databases and interpret the information critically to support my research.
My honours year allowed me to learn more about the public sector and
environmental reporting. My professional accounting career was refined
through my Honours degree; as I became aware of the developments in the
public sector, I focused my interest specifically in that area, and was
able to define the role that I sought in the work place. After
completing my degree, I was offered a position at the South Australian
Auditor-General's Office. Working in public sector was my career goal
which was achieved through the completion of my honours degree.
I have enjoyed living in Adelaide as it is affordable and the people are
friendly, and I will continue to do so as I have established a firm
placement in my career. I have been working for the South Australian
Auditor-General as an audit analyst since January 2007, this has been
a great learning experience, and I continue to grow everyday.
