What was my experience with the Honours program?

The Honours program at UniSA has benefited me for several reasons:

It has allowed me to focus on the dance culture from a specific psychological perspective that gave me insight into the self-esteem development of adolescent female dancers.

It has provided me with one-on-one support from UniSA academic staff that has improved my communication and academic skills for future employment in the academic field.

It has provided me with strong friendships with other postgraduate students that will provide constant support throughout my career.

It has offered me a flexible lifestyle and the freedom to develop my own work schedule.

How has Honours helped my career?

The Honours program gave me a psychological understanding of the dance culture, a perspective that I would not have understood without the Honours program. It has provided me with the necessary analytical and research skills to benefit my clientele and business, therefore giving me an edge over competitors.

Where am I now?

I started my own dance school in November 2005, therefore my long-term career ambition is to build up the company and continue my research with UniSA to become a key contributor to the dance culture literature.
Achieving first-class honours allowed me to continue my research with UniSA through a PhD scholarship. I am now researching the link between personality traits, commitment and psychological contract in the Sport Management field. A few big words to some, but it means that I can focus towards a particular research field that will help to set up my future academic career.
