Qualification
When you graduate from the Honours degree, you graduate with a qualification recognised worldwide.
Industry
Honours offers a qualification for industry above that of the normal undergraduate degree. The Honours research project enables you to carry out a large independent research project of relevance to industry, government, or the community sector, and allows you to develop project management skills, analytical and data analysis skills and written skills.
Research skills learned and applied over the course of the program are transferable to the workplace and are particularly advantageous for careers in consultancy, the private sector and government and in the specific areas of human resource management, banking and finance, economics, and sport and recreation management.. At some firms, students will not obtain an interview unless they have an Honours degree. Honours graduates are often selected because of their ability to work independently, their completion of a large scale project, and because of their advanced project management, communication, and analytical skills.
Academia
Students who complete their Honours to a 2A standard (70% – 79%) overall (or higher) also meet the standard prerequisite for entry to the PhD both here and in universities across the world. If you are looking to pursue an academic career, Honours is a valuable beginning. Many government and university based scholarships available for supporting a PhD require applicants to have an Honours 1A (80% and above) to be competitive.
