The purchase and installation of any networked devices other than workstations must be approved by the Divisions IT Manager. This includes such equipment as composite print, fax and scanning stations, as well as wireless transmission devices.
A network device is a piece of equipment that is plugged into the Universitys IT network, generally via a blue network cable, into a network point on the wall. Examples are printers, servers, network hubs, etc.
This will avoid possible problems such as the inadvertent addition of devices that are either inappropriate or incorrectly configured, and will ensure the integrity of the Universitys network and resources are not compromised.
This complies with Information Technology Services Unit policy regarding equipment and software that is able to interact with networking facilities.
