Disposal of IT equipment
This document covers the Division of Business guidelines for the Disposal
of IT equipment. Each PC will need to be assessed against minimum operating specifications to ensure that it can support
the latest software used within UniSA. If you are unable to
determine the suitability of the PC for redeployment you should log a service call
requesting assistance from BUE-IT Support.
Leased PCs must be returned to the leasing company with the original
peripheral equipment (eg. keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc). In
addition, the PC must be returned with the original licensed operating
system media. The PC must be formatted to remove any University data and
the blue plate needs to be returned to ISTS. In most circumstances
these PCs will not be available for purchase by staff for personal
reasons unless specifically approved by the Manager, BUE-IT.
The buy out figures will be determined by the leasing company based on
the type of equipment and length of term.
Disposal of unwanted/unusable equipment:
- Backup all personal data to a network drive or CD/DVD.
- The PC will be formatted by BUE-IT support to remove all data.
- BUE-IT will remove the blue plate and decommission the machine
from the network.
- No operating system or application software will be reinstalled.
- The PC will need to be stored by the school/unit, until it can
be disposed of.
Sale of unwanted equipment:
- Backup all personal data to a network drive or CD/DVD.
- Log a job requesting that BUE-IT Support decommission the
equipment.
- For re-use within the University, the appropriate operating
system and licensed application software can be installed. This
will be done by the new cost centres Information Technology
support team.
- BUE-IT Support will not install an operating system on PCs
for reuse within the Division of Business unless the machine
meets the minimum operating specification requirements.
- If purchased by an external party (including for personal use by
staff) the PC is to be sold with the original OEM (original
equipment manufacturer) licence that was supplied with the PC.
The hard drive will not contain any operating system or software
that was originally licensed to the University. It is the
responsibility of the purchaser to reinstall the operating
system.
- Arrange for sale of the PC either by a cash payment to
Campus Central or a cost centre journal transfer. Your
area's Resource/Finance officer will be able to provide
information on which account the monies should be paid into.
