Support of University-Owned Computers

Policy 1: The Division will provide support to all University-Owned computers (that is those which have a UNISA Blue Plate Number adhered to them) which meet the minimum hardware and software specifications as determined by the University or Division of Business IT Support.

To comply with University policy, the Division will only provide support to University owned equipment. University owned equipment should be listed on the Divisions asset register and is identified by a UNISA Number appearing on a Blue Plate attached to the equipment. To obtain a UniSA Blue Plate Number, contact the IT Helpdesk on  ext 25000.

The Division will provide support to PCs which meet the approved minimum hardware and software specifications.Macintosh computerswill not be supported and will require an external source of support. Thesespecifications which are determined by the University of South Australia and stated in the Universitys ISTS policies on hardware, unless otherwise agreed to by the Division of Business IT Support.

In cases where a computer fails to meet minimum specifications, the user will be required to log an IT Helpdesk call and a preferred supplier brought in to rectify any hardware or software problems. No hardware installations will be done by IT staff. Any costs incurred by this action will be charged directly to the Cost Centre to which the computer belongs.

Support for multiple University computers per staff member will be provided, however, this will be reviewed if the demand becomes excessive.

Please note: under no circumstances are CMOS/BIOS passwords to be set on a university owned computer
