Locking your workstation
For security reasons BUE-IT recommend saving your data and then locking your computer when you leave your desk. If you simultaneously press Ctrl + Alt + Del on your keyboard you will be prompted with the Windows Security box, select the option to 'Lock Computer'. It is quite simple to repeat the command and insert your password to return to your desktop.
Please note: if you share your computer with someone
or if BUE-IT have been asked to attend your workstation, the computer
needs to be 'logged off' during your absence. Leaving it in the 'locked state' means the only way anyone can get into the computer is by
shutting it down and restarting it. BUE-IT will not restart a
locked computer unless there is an emergency or there has been prior
agreement with the client.
When you need to leave your computer for an amount of time (meeting etc) but do not want to log off or shut down, locking your computer is a good strategy to follow as it means nobody can interfere with your workstation or see any of the data that your account has access to.
- to lock your computer press Ctrl + Alt + Del and select "Lock Computer"
- to unlock your computer press Ctrl + Alt + Del and type in your password
