BUE-IT Greening Initiatives

We aim to promote improved workplace practices relative to energy efficiency within our IT environment.
Through awareness and action we can considerably reduce our carbon footprint in support of our global environment.
How you can reduce your carbon footprint...
Computing
- Shutdown your computer at night and on weekends
- Turn off your printers at night and on weekends
- Introduce live plants around the office to absorb negative energy emissions
Printing
- Duplex printing where available
- Use recycled paper (if printer model allows)
- Recycle toner cartridges
- Reduce paper usage by implementing new processes online instead of hard copy
Others
- Recycle old mobile phones at your local recycling depot
How we've reduced our carbon footprint...
- We have replaced most CRT monitors with LCD monitors, which use much less energy
- Duplex printing has been enabled on all printers with duplex capability. This reduces the amount of paper being printed
- Green IT considerations are now included as part of our PC supplier performance reviews and HW evaluations
- Most computers and laptops have been automatically configured for optimal power management settings
- We have implemented the use of virtualisation technologies to help consolidate server resources. This helps reduce the number of physical servers needed and increases energy efficiency
- Where possible, we try and use remote desktop software (Dameware) to provide user support, rather than travelling between campuses. This reduces travel costs and associated carbon emissions
