Bob Smart (Masters 2005)

Business Assurance Consultant
PricewaterhouseCoopers, Adelaide.

I have accepted the offer of the world's leading professional services firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers, where I work as a Business Assurance consultant dedicated to internal audit and IT security reviews. I believe that the BIS program prepared me perfectly for my role which requires quick understanding of complex business processes and information systems, assessment of associated risks and controls and finding the best solution for a broad range of clients. Furthermore, the world-class education in areas of business process reengineering, project management, behaviour and organisation, information system development, business communications, strategic management and IT security gave me valuable skills I use in everyday work. It is no surprise that my employer highly values the BIS degree with three out of 18 colleagues in the Adelaide Business Assurance office being the BIS alumni.

My career in professional services was paved by the BIS industry placements which gave me a taste of consulting and showed me how the diversified assignments can be professionally rewarding in terms of intensified personal development. Emphasis the program places on networking has helped me in developing my personal networks and is probably the most important long term benefit of the degree. Whenever I step in any large Adelaide office, and as a consultant I have been in dozens of them, I often find at least one, often influential, BIS alumni. Therefore, better join the club.

Tim Boettcher (Masters 2005)

The BIS programme provided me with real-world employment experience, an opportunity which would otherwise be unavailable to students fresh out of University. Not only was it a way of putting curriculum theory into practice, but I also maintained industry contacts I could utilise for future employment after graduating.
My current employment has been a result of the BIS programme, thanks to the knowledge, skills, industry contacts, and experience provided during my involvement.

Now you'll have to excuse me, Oprah is on. ;-)

Luc Thompson (Masters 2006)

The aims of the BIS program were aligned to exactly what I was looking for in my continuing study, which was I.T. in a business perspective. All of the core courses and electives had a contemporary feel, and the topics we covered included some of the most up-to-date technologies and issues facing the business world today. The lectures included a lot of content from guest speakers from within industry, which was a good opportunity to validate our theoretical knowledge with their practical experiences. I believe that the most interesting element of the course was the opportunity it provides to the students to move from Information Systems theory to practice.

The projects gave me experience with real world issues, in a variety of industries and environments including government, defence and private sectors, with projects including developing technical documentation, process mapping and analysis, and writing systems testing documentation. The skills that I have learned on these projects have been useful in my every day work, and have given me good insights into required technical and soft skills. The contacts that I made during my time in the BIS program with program partners, the support network and other students have proven invaluable on many occasions and I still keep in contact with many of the people that I met through the program.

Jessica Pulverenti (Masters 2005)

Completing the BIS Program at UniSA was one of the best decisions I made. It gave me the opportunity to gain valuable work experience while completing my studies. At the end of the program, having a Masters degree as well as the relevant work experience is a great advantage when looking for graduate employment.

The degree is a good combination of business, management and IT subjects giving you broad knowledge across many subjects. This is ideal for students not wanting to have limited, narrow job opportunities. The BIS degree makes it possible for you to work a wide variety of job roles across the Business/IT areas of an organisation. In the past 2 years I have worked in roles as a Business Process Reengineering Consultant, a Performance Management and Support Analyst, an IT Security Consultant and currently as a Business Analyst.
