Ms Ainslie Popplewell
Program Delivery Manager
Records Management Program
SA Water

Already, as SA Water commences on a major program for Information Management and Records Management compliance, we are being impacted by the lack of available skilled people to assist and certainly of people who are well versed in the strategic components. In addition, the profession will gain higher credibility with graduates potentially gaining positions of influence greater than those generally enjoyed by the profession at the moment. Certainly, we would encourage our high potential employees in this discipline to pursue these studies for mutual benefit. We would support their studies, as per Government guidelines. It would also assist us in succession planning, which will be critical as we gain and need to maintain a Records Management compliant business.

Manager, Administration
HR Services Unit
Justice Portfolio Services - Attorney-General's Department

"There was a mixed response across the Justice Portolio and AGD. Most thought is was a good idea to have people around with this kind of expertise. The larger divisions/agencies were certainly more receptive than the smaller ones, probably for obvious reasons. There is a genuine need for graduates with expertise in the areas of Records Management Archiving and EDRMS and this program appears to meet these needs.  It is envisaged that graduates of this program could possibly be employed by some of our agencies. This program and relevant material will be circulated and recommended to our staff.

Manager, Business Services
Corporate Services
Dept of Water, Land & Biodiversity Conservation

I fully support the program and its objectives. I do wonder whether Shared Services is a possible location for a pool of qualified graduates to provide these services on a whole of government basis, resulting in possible financial benefits to smaller agencies which have smaller numbers of operational/strategic staff in these fields.  Yes there is a genuine need for qualified people in the areas of Records Management, archiving and EDRMS and the program seems to meet those needs, although it is a little difficult to ascertain without full content details.  Assuming there was budget available DWLBC would consider employing graduates in the field. I have suggested the program to appropriate people, however records associated staff are limited in DWLBC. Information on the BIM program has been provided to the Training and Development Coordinator for DWLBC. I fully support the program and its objectives.

The public sector is screaming out for this kind of expertise.  It is hard to ascertain if graduates will meet these needs until the first graduates get through. It would be useful for the University and/or State Records to connect with employers at that time (and perhaps on an ongoing basis) about whether or not the course is living up to expectations and meeting employers requirements for skilled staff.  Members of our agencies are willing to employ graduates of these courses.  This program and relevant information has been circulated and recommended to our staff, and in fact have one staff member enrolled in the Graduate Certificate already. DH is supporting his study with time off and has endorsed 100% reimbursement of his fees assuming he successfully completes the subjects. The 100% reimbursement of fees is an acknowledgement that the skills are extremely important to the public sector.

Director, Business Service
SAPOL

Specifically in relation to feedback on the content of the Course, my advice is that it is sufficiently broad enough to capture all elements of business information management and provides a high level of choice in defined streams.
In relation to the identified questions for which feedback is sought, I provide the following comments.
SAPOL has a genuine need for graduates with expertise in Records Management.
SAPOL supports the employment of records management graduates and considers this an area of skills shortage.

SAPOL is currently investing in Records Management to address the standards. We recognise the need for a skilled core of employees in our records management unit as well as the need to increase skills throughout the organisation, to this end SAPOL will promote the BIM throughout the organisation.
