Looking to be a teacher librarian?
For
students who wish to be a teacher librarian, particular courses need to be
undertaken to fulfil this requirement.
This program has been developed and will continue to evolve with the
brilliant assistance and communication that we have with the Department of Education and
Children's Services (DECS) and the School Libraries Association of South
Australia.
Meetings are held to discuss issues surrounding required curriculum to
enable you to obtain a qualification for teacher
librarianship at the highest standard. Information has also been
provided to use to promote to you the DECS Retraining Support Scheme.
The following restrictions apply if you wish to obtain a qualification as a teacher librarian. As more information comes to hand it will be uploaded to this page:
- you must already be a qualified teacher
- the existing elective in the Graduate Diploma must be replaced by
LIBR 5013 Reading for Learning and Leisure with a focus on children's and adolescent literature- the in-service project will need to be completed within a School library
The following is an extract from the SLASA website
DECS Retraining Support Scheme
Teachers who are employed by the Department of Education and Children's Services and would like to become qualified teacher librarians are encouraged to apply for funding to meet the costs of accredited study at University level. This includes graduate diploma or graduate certificate level, but not masters level.
The scheme supports teachers prepared to undertake library positions in a country district where there is a need for a qualified teacher librarian. If you are presently a teacher working in the country as a teacher librarian you may also like to make inquiries. Funding is available for HECS scholarships.
Information about teacher librarian programs and professional training is available on the ALIA website
Please show this to any teacher who you think may be interested in taking advantage of the Retraining Support Scheme.
