International student questions
We
receive a variety of questions from local and international students and
have incorporated these within the FAQ sections. You will also need to
view the specific information for
international students.
The following question required a detailed answer so a response has been
formulated and provided below in the hope it may assist other international
students who may find themselves in a similar situation.
If you are an international student in your home country and are interested
in enrolling in one of the programs please contact Moira (moira.lawler@unisa.edu.au) who
is more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
I
am a US citizen. I am interested in relocating to Australia to be
closer to family, and I would like to continue my education in
library studies, as well as gain employment in a library in
Australia. I hold two bachelor's degrees from an accredited
University in the US, and have several years of experience working
in a United States library?
1. As you hold US Citizenship you will need to enrol as an
international student online externally and fees for each course will be $2,240
regardless of whether or not you enrol in the Graduate Diploma or
Masters program. This program is not currently available to
international students in Australia but if you enrol as an
International Student in the US you can still relocate to Australia and study
online. All course materials, lectures, tutorials and discussion
boards are available with each course.
2. If you relocate to Australia and apply to take up Permanent
Residency or Australian Citizenship and are successful, you could then apply as an
Australian student and you would enrol as a Commonwealth Supported
Student and pay for your studies via the
Higher Education
Contribution Scheme (HECS.)
Currently as it stands with HECS repayments, you do not repay the loan until you earn
approximately $AUS38,000 in the following financial year.
3. If you enrol as an international student online
externally and complete some
of the courses and you decide to take up permanent residency you
could then apply via the same process (UniSA Apply Online but under
the Australian Student section) as an Australian Resident and
receive credit for the courses you would have completed as an
International student. The program could then be completed as a HECS
based program.
4. With approval of your current qualifications your eligibility
would allow you to apply for enrolment in either the Graduate
Diploma (1 year full-time) or Master program (1.5 years full-time).
You can of course undertake the programs either full-time or
part-time to suit your current commitments. It is your choice.
5. As an International student you are
required by University policy to have your undergraduate degree transcripts
certified according to the following UniSA policy:
UniSA selection and entry to programs
POLICY NO: A-18.10
3.7.1. Where applicants are required to demonstrate prior academic
achievement in order to determine eligibility for entry to a
program, this should be through presentation of a certified
transcript of academic record from the educational institution
previously attended.
6. Please read the following section for
international students
and then if you are happy with your decision apply via
UniSA
Apply Online (Note: this application process does not incur any
fees)
As I live in Sydney and work full time your course - Graduate Diploma of Library and Information Management with the possibility to be done on line, sounds very interesting. I would appreciate more information on enrolment and language requirements. I have a Bachelor of Music Degree from Conservatorium of Music, University of Zagreb, Croatia and I am in the process of obtaining Certificate IV in Small Business Management from TAFE College in Sydney. I have never worked in a Library environment but I have experience in Print Music Retail, Print Music Wholesale and Operations and Logistics. My desire is to work one day in a specialised university library so I would like to know if by doing the course that will become possible
Response to this student was very clear and concise and involved
providing information from the
International student process for application page.
