Bring us your Bugs
See Bring us your Bugs on YouTube
What 'bugs' do you have around your home, local park, or creek?
Would you like to know what they are?
Bring them along and we'll identify them and give you some great bug gear!
What is Bring us your Bugs?
Researchers from UniSA and the South Australian Museum are collecting live invertebrates (animals without backbones) from the 'wilds' of Adelaide - anything that flies, crawls, slithers, slides, swims or burrows - and YOU can help! We want to find out what invertebrates we have living around us!
When and where was it?
Bring us your Bugs was held for a second time on the front lawns of the South Australian Museum on Wednesday October 7, 2009, from 8.30am to 12 noon.
What PRIZES are there?
Bring along a live invertebrate and you'll receive a "Bug Bag" with loads of fun and helpful bug gear, including:

There'll also be loads of extra prizes, including Gift Vouchers for the South Australian Museum and certificates for collectors who bring in any of our MOST WANTED bugs:
Who (and what) will be there?
There will be bug experts available to identify your bugs from the South Australian Museum, UniSA, the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resource Management Board, and the South Australian Research and Development Institute. There will also be:
- An agricultural pest display by the South Australian Research and Development Institute
- A waterbug display by the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resource Management Board
- A bakyard wildlife display by the Urban Forest Biodiversity Program
- A working beehive (safely behind glass) by the Beekeepers Society of South Australia
- A Butterfly Garden display courtesy of State Flora Belair Nursery
What should you bring?
The bugs can be butterflies, moths, beetles, earwigs, spiders, slaters, snails, worms, or any other invertebrates you can find. They need to be brought to the Museum alive, in a suitable container (e.g. jam jar), ideally with some 'habitat' from where they were found (i.e. leaf of a tree, soil, leaf-litter). The Museum will retain all the bugs and they may go into the Museum collection or be photographed for a publication. Dont forget, there'll be extra prizes, including Gift Vouchers for the South Australian Museum and certificates for collectors who bring in any of our MOST WANTED bugs.
