Travel options to and from Whyalla can be booked through Rex Airlines. There are several return flight times each day and prices do vary. All Rex flights depart from Adelaide Airports main terminal and arrive at Whyalla's only airport, flight time is approximately 45 minutes. The next closest regional airport that you can fly in and out of is Port Augusta, located approximately 85 kilometres from Whyalla. Travel from Port Augusta to Whyalla will take approximately 45 minutes. Sharp Airline flights operate each morning and afternoon and flight time is approximately 50 minutes. Travel from Port Augusta to Whyalla is too far for a taxi, but there are a number of car hire options.

Whyalla is located about 400 kms from Adelaide, which is a comfortable 4.5 hour drive, depending on the number and length of stops along the way. There are two main routes to take, the scenic route from Adelaide to Whyalla is via the Clare Valley and Southern Flinders Ranges Tourist Route, or the direct route via Port Wakefield, Port Pirie, Port Augusta and on to Whyalla.
