The pathway or 'spine': core courses and tutorials (rectangles), electives (squares) and additional theory seminars (circles) connect together to form the 'backbone' of the degree |
The Theory Spine cross-fertilises themes in a 'spine' or rich theoretical pathway so that you benefit from interdisciplinary teaching rather than focusing on a single art, architecture or design medium.
The study of theory is based on the view that art, architecture and design cannot be understood in isolation from their social, historical and philosophical contexts.
It's your choice
Theory Spine puts you at the centre of your learning. You can 'choose your own adventure', shaping a pathway that suits your needs and interests:
- experience theory through a series of lectures and tutorials, linked together with seminars
- attach seminars and electives to core courses to create a 'Theory Spine' for your degree
- take the seminar program as a Directed Study, and get credit for your degree.
