Study Sustainable Design
What is sustainable design in the School of Art,
Architecture and Design? Sustainable design is moving beyond a
specialist field or a 'tick the box'
compliance issue in design practice.
Stringent rating systems, tighter industry
regulations, materials selection and life-cycle
analysis requirements are offering designers an opportunity to rethink
the nature of their practice and the value of design to the broader
community.
Sustainable design is necessarily interdisciplinary and global in its
reach. The materials and methods chosen to produce an object or a piece
of furniture, a lighting system or a retail interior, a house or a
complete suburb, all have far-reaching environmental and social impacts
which can cross borders and disciplinary boundaries.
The Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Design and Master of Sustainable Design draw on expertise in sustainability in
the School of Art, Architecture and Design and
across the University of South Australia, with sustainability a key
research priority for the School and UniSA.
