Undergraduate programs
The South Australian School of Art offers the following undergraduate programs. All undergraduate degrees are three year full-time programs or their equivalent part-time. In the first year of each of the undergraduate programs, students are introduced to basic skills and concepts in art and design theory, which provide the foundation for the remainder of their studies. Art and Design History and Theory courses underpin studio-based courses throughout the undergraduate degrees.
Bachelor of Visual Arts
Bachelor of Visual Arts (DBVS) with Specialisations in Glass, Ceramics, Drawing, New Media Arts, Jewellery and Metal, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture and Installation, Textiles, and Art and Design History and Theory. This degree aims to provide:
- a studio-based education for people wishing to pursue careers as professional artists
- the state's only art history and theory degree
- a first degree for people wishing to pursue careers as art teachers, art administrators or curators.
Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication)
Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) (DBVC) with a professional major in either Graphic Design or Illustration Design. In the first year of the program, students are introduced to fundamental skills and concepts in design theory and studio practice, investigated through a diverse range of media, techniques and applications, which provide the foundation for the remainder of their studies. Honours
Undergraduate programs provide students with technical and conceptual skills which equip them for related careers in art and design. Opportunities for further study for students who have demonstrated a high level of achievement in their undergraduate studies exist in the form of the Honours degrees Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) (DHVS) and Bachelor of Design (Honours) (Visual Communication) (DHVC).
