Yhonnie Scarce

Life as a graduate student

In 2006 I was a finalist in the 23rd Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award, and in 2007 a Finalist for the Xstrata Coal Indigenous Emerging Artist Award which will open in July at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane.

In 2007 I will be exhibiting in Indigenous responses to Colonialism: another story at the Adelaide Festival Centre in March, and presenting a large scale work for the Public Art Project There forever as part of the Port Adelaide Festival, curated by Linda Marie Walker, in April. In September, I will be Artist-in-Resident for two weeks Art and Design School at Monash University, Melbourne.

Apart from being a practising artist, I also tutor Indigenous children through Distance Education at Marden Open Access College and have worked with young offenders during their school terms at the CAVAN Secure Care Centre in Adelaide.

Some of my works have recently been acquired by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory and The Flinders University Art Museum and I have a review in the next issue of the Australian Art Review Magazine coming out in March 2007.
