Coursework applicants
To be eligible for entry into the Graduate Diploma/Master of Visual Art & Design, applicants should hold an undergraduate qualification in the relevant specialisation for which they are applying.

Research degree applicants
Before you apply
Applications for a place may be made at any time during the year, however
applications for scholarships close on 31 October
so the
School only accepts occasional applications for places outside this date. Prospective applicants should contact the School's
research administration assistant Pippa Mathews prior to
30 September each year
to arrange an interview to discuss the proposed research project with
Dr John Barbour, Research Degree Coordinator. Telephone consultation can be arranged for
interstate or international applicants. Decisions regarding offers are made by
a committee.

Applications for the
Master
of Visual Arts by Research,

of Design by Research,

Portfolio submission
All studio applicants are required to submit a portfolio to the School. Please see Portfolio requirements for all applicants
below.
Australian research degree applicants should note that while applications are formally required to be submitted via Research Degree Apply Online (closing date 31 October each year), the School requires your portfolio by 28 September in order for a preliminary assessment to be made.
International applicants should note that while applications are formally required to be submitted via Research Degree Apply Online (closing date 31 August each year) the School requires your portfolio by 15 June in order for a preliminary assessment to be made,

Portfolio requirements for all applicants
South Australian School of Art portfolio requirements for all applicants for postgraduate in Coursework Programs and Research Degrees.
Portfolios should be the applicant's own original recent work and may include:

Art works (drawings, paintings, photographs, sculpture, installation, performance, ceramics, prints, glass, jewellery/metal, textiles)

Graphic design or Illustration work (logos, posters, publication covers, illustrations, web designs, design tenders).
Portfolio presentation requirements for all applicants

Up to 15 images of works. Please note: digital images are preferred, although slides will be accepted; audiovisual material must be on a DVD, maximum duration 10 minutes. Please provide a list of all images with name, title, date, medium and dimensions and ensure all support material is labelled.

Statement of academic qualifications. Please state your undergraduate academic qualifications, together any postgraduate qualifications or experience you may possess.

Resume or curriculum vitae. Please state your career achievements, with particular emphasis upon those relevant to your proposed program of study. You may also outline any employment experience relevant to your proposed program of study.

Statement of intent
This should outline your overall career objectives for undertaking the proposed program of study, together with a summary of your specific aims for developing your creative and professional skills. No more than 500 words.
Other information required from postgraduate research degree applicants:

Proposal outline
Please state succinctly and clearly your proposed research topic, together with a brief description of your research methodology and a bibliography of essential references. No more than 750 words in all. -
An indication of proposed supervision arrangements (if known). For information regarding supervision expertise available applicants are recommended to view the Directory of Research Expertise
