Philosophy and architecture
Philosophy and histories and theories in architecture are significant research areas in the Architecture Program. Several staff members have nationally recognised research interests and publication records. The discipline regularly hosts innovative symposia on how architecture represents a mode of thinking unique in itself. This ranges from speculative discussion on architectures key functions: to design, to draw, to build; through to questions on how architecture seeks to embody and represent a world greater than itself. Critical thinking within architecture has a strong foundation within both the undergraduate program where students undertake five core history and theory courses, ranging from cultural studies, to theories of modernity, to philosophy, ethics and aesthetics.
