The
Centre for Settlement Studies supports research into contemporary and
local architectural history, in conjunction with the resource of the
Architecture Archive.
An ongoing project is research into the Adelaide
architectural firm of Dickson & Platten, (1958 – 1973), who donated
almost their entire collection of architectural drawings and
documentation to the Archive in 2002. Dickson & Platten were the subject
of the inaugural seminar in the Royal Australia Institute of Architects
(RAIA),
SA Branch 'Conversation + Exhibition' series in August 2003. The
conversation, which attracted a full house at the RAIA premises, was led
by Rachel Hurst, Senior Lecturer in
Architecture. It focussed on the design philosophies and principles
underpinning the works of Robert Dickson and Newell Platten and was
accompanied by an exhibition of drawings, photographs and ephemera from
the collection held by the Archive.
